Free writing for free playing

Once upon a time there was the Konkurrent, a little Dutch record label, that with the series “In the fishtank” gave us some little gems, thanks to the improvised collaboration between two bands of the international scene often very different and musically dissimilar.
Some years ago, with one of these gems published by Motorpsycho and Jaga Jazzist Horns, I drove Franco Rigato (a friend  and co-worker of this blog) crazy.

Long ago I played in a band that proposed a show half made on agreed tracks and the other half on pure improvisation and (that's incredible) sometimes some interesting performances came out.
But let's say: free playing  is art and certainly it isn't as simple or spontaneous as many people may think.

Collettivo Androgino is not afraid of challenges and presents itself as a group open to influences and to the most charming and experimental sounds.
As they declare: “An experience at the root of sound vibration, from the silence to the ephemeral and varying structure of funky grooves, psychedelic madness and rock-noise drifts”

Don't you want to experience this yourself?

Contro

The are labels and names that are created with special intentions. In this case, I am speaking about Controrecords. The word 'contro' in Italian means against or sometimes versus. It is clear that by calling themselves in this fashion that one should not expect them to represent cheap, repetious music which is such and intregal part of the music scene at the moment.

Controrecords, a small record company based in Turin,  has a unique way of doing business. They have formed a sort of cooperative that represents not only a group of various artists who not only help eachother out but actully work together to create music of quality. A rarity these days in the modern record company world.

Wheter it be  the rafined sounds of Davide Tosches, the desperate outcry of Stefano Amen or the deep "in your soul"  blues of Salvo Ruolo the sound of quality rings as clear as a bell. So check out Controrecords' up coming new releases or you'll be missing out on some very projects of excellence.

Stay tuned.
