Two years ago, just while Chances were starting their short lived but intense adventure, my life decided to change direction. The iconoclast which was sleeping inside me made a jump, one of those jumps that even now, sometimes, shake the foundations and the walls of the world I live in. But, at that time, the building didn't hold out. I found myself on the ruins, disheartened, with my ears full with the noise that spread everywhere when everything collapsed. That noise resembled - and still resembles, in my mind - a song that I was working on, together with some other guys (one of them was, as usual, my friend and UtopicBlogger Carlo Trevisan). This song was to be the opening act of a show called “Rosso!”, a collection of short stories, written and read by Gigi Tenca, all of them dealing with the red color. This specific song - you're listening to it - talks about bedcovers adorned with pomegranates, night visits, benevolent spirits...
That song bewitched me and went deep inside. I believe that song woke up the iconoclast, showed him the dynamite he already had just besides him and finally exploded, just like a Wagnerian symphony, when everything collapsed. And I cannot escape from my never won symbolist drives when I think that it's something created by me – I mean those sound layers – that enveloped me in a gently embrace that turned out to be a mortal one.
Even now, when I listen to it – not to talk about when I played it live – it's just like I could see the dreadful image of my past while breaking in one thousand pieces. I love this song in the same, already sick way children love tanks, warships and fake guns.

See you soon,
Fiorenzo Fuolega

Once upon a time, some guys met in a house room and decided to enjoy their time. They started drinkin' some beer and playing their instruments. A band was born. They decided to meet again, and try to work on some material. But since they loved jamming so much, they have never been able to start working seriously on some songs. However, they recorded an enormous amount of material, absolutely "live", and using only a panoramic mic. After four or five months, this adventure ended up for logistic/artistic/bloody reasons. Now, after a couple of year, one of the members (me) has decided to take some of these recordings, make a minimal editing (almost only fading in/out, and cutting off the initial burps and the final comments...), and post them on his blog. I want to call this project "Chances". The meaning is quite obvious, I think... what could have been but actually hasn't. I refer to the band but also to the "ideas" that have never become songs.
The recording is quite rough, and the wild, 100% improvisation is very dangerous, so you'll hear things that sound not so good... anyway, I'm going to post these tunes because I really like them: so, no fear, at all.
The song you're listening to is the first take of our first meeting. We had never played altogether before. Don't be afraid, the "ambient" intro will turn to some healthy rock, sooner or later (just after minute 4, more or less). So be patient...
In the future, if the other ex-members will not have killed me, I'm going to post something else.
Last but not least, Chances were: Linda Varagnolo (Cello, Bass, Guitar, Voice, Keyboards), Pier Ambrosini (Drums, Keyboards, Laptop, Samples, Kaosspad), Carlo Trevisan (the other utopic guy... Guitar, Keyboards), Fiorenzo Fuolega (Guitar, Keyboards).

See you soon,
Fiorenzo Fuolega
