On June the 1st we co-organized, along with "I Druidi" and the guys of Chioggialab, a nice indie festival. We had the possibility to see four great bands playing. With this post, we start dealing with them. The first project we are going to talk about is "Wolther goes stranger". The guy behind this name is Luca Mazzieri, which plays also with "A Classic Education".
I must say that I never listened to his music befor the gig. Well, the show is really amazing: with the help of Massimo at the drums, Luca built up a smart and strong texture of synthetic groove, long ethereal keyboards, whispers and acoustic percussions. And all of this is obtained using piano, voice, a Roland mc 307, some other old market's instruments and minimalistic drums. When I saw Massimo playing a cymbal with an electric drill, thus obtaining a sound which was perfect for the song atmosphere (and they do not play industrial music...), I got really astonished! Take the Pet Shop Boys, take off all the exceeding honey and substitute it with some elegant, clever and ironic experimentation, and you'll have an idea of this music.
After the festival I listened to their myspace, and I must say that the recordings are as cool as the live show. Here we have the possibility to upload on the player two brand new songs:  "so sad" - even sad people can dance, they say... - and an original and pleasantly unrecognizable cover of a song by Leonard Cohen, "I'm your man". The former will be included in Wolther's next album, to be probably released in September. Thank you guys for giving us the chance to broadcast your music!

Cheers,
