Today I'll move to one of those "frontier states" that usually produce so interesting music and art. Let's go to see what's growing on the bridge between Europe and Asia, between the West and Russia...
Nicka Tseretely - Favourite song: lavnana
This guy creates really nice atmospheres. The song I've chosen is characterized by soft sounds, oriental instruments and percussions, guitars, trumpets, all of them overdubbing a drum&bass beat. The result is a really interesting chill-out sound. Otherwhere, the beat is more "trancy", and electronics dominate the scene. Anyway, this different approach produces really interesting songs as well. For instance, try to listen to "MODI for MIDI": intelligent dance music!
Mona Liza Overdrive - Favourite track: Mr Policeman
A recurring and hypnotizing guitar riff, space sounds, a low-fi approach and a voice that recalls the darkest Jim Morrison and Nick Cave. Not bad...
Sanda - Favourite track: khorumi
A little bit of Ireland? I'm not sure. I do not know how to define this band. 80's guitars, choirs, organs, for a really musically rich ensemble. One of their main characteristics is rhythm, which is obtained thorough drums and percussions.
Nino Katamadze - Favourite track: Track 1
Great is the contrast between a traditional voice (and a traditional singing) and some "modern" arrangements. These ones sometimes recall the electronics of Portished and the guitars of Arab Strap (expecially in this "Track one"), while the voice reminds me of the sweet Sade. Anyway, an interesting hybrid experiment...
Gloof - Favourite track: ar caxvide gogo
A hi-fI recording could give a stronger impact to some of these songs, no doubt... The song I have chosen is the only one that's quite well recorded: it's interesting and fresh, and it's characterized by a non-granted sound. These young guys (are they really young? I don't know, but their music suggest it...) could have something to say, in my opinion, even if I must say that maybe they're a little bit "green"... Anyway, it's not a problem: time will tell...
Ketrine&Me - Favourite track: Do you believe
A sweet piano arrangement and light guitars that accompaign a melodic voice.
G!O Janiashvili - Favourite track: Mr idiot is talking on the tv
Yes, we've found the crazy Georgian man we were looking for! Dodecaphonic music, experimental electronics, trumpets, percussions... Well, maybe it's not "easy listening" (not at all!!), but it' surely interesting, no doubt! Electronics and contemporary classical music, two approaches (and two separated projects, i think) for a really interesting artist.
Well, I'm quite satisfied. That's all from the Caucasus, see you soon...
