The Warming Sensation of the Sun

David Tosches’ music can be compared to a plant trying to survive the winter. Survival means trying to hold on to last of the sunlight energy stored in its cells, resisting the cold of the wind and harsh temperatures. Apparently, immobile yet with the arrival of spring and warmer temperatures new buds seem to magically appear before your eyes..

I have that same sensation when I listen to song after song by this singer- songwriter from Torino.  His music slowly sinks in to the soul of the listener who is able to discover little by little new ways of interpreting his words and music. Tosches takes nothing for granted. His songs seemed to be whispered instead of actually sung. The instruments in the background create a space where total musical equilibrium is astonishing. Whether it be the sound of a violin, keyboards or the chimes of a clock; everything revolves and interacts perfectly around the vocals and the guitar.

The song “Case” opens the Davide Tosches’ album and it immediately pulls you into musical territories that indeed are dear to him. The title track of the CD ‘Dove l’erba è alta’ captures the listener with its lyrics and extreme simplicity of its sounds. “ Deserto” leaves us with a feeling of anxiousness.

Winter has long been over but Davide Tosches’ music , in any season, is like a flower ready to bloom …are you sure you won’t be completely enticed but its intoxicating scent?
