Loud Velvet
Dear all,
which is now the most famous duo in the musical scene? I’m sure most of you are thinking about White Stripes or about Fiery Furnaces... it depends on what you prefer between rock and pop (if you’re Italian maybe you can think about Bud Spencer Blues Explosion too).
And if I say ‘Velvet’ what do you think about? This time I’ve no doubt that the winner is Velvet Undergound.
In this blog we’re not going to speak about these (interesting) bands, but about an Italian-French duo, called Red Velvet, that, with its namesake debut album has been able to astonish us.
David and Reeks show a dark attitude to indie music and a great ability to mix a lot of different sounds and smooth contrasts.
In ‘Prayer’ post rock and psychedelic music live together in a long awesome song, while ‘Blood’ is a great sweet ballad that you would never stop to listen to.
Italy meets France and it’s not a football match like you could believe, but a wonderful musical mix, some order in sonic chaos.
Cheers

Crazy electronics from Holland
today I had another proof of how many artists are deciding to release their stuff through Creatice Commons licenses. You can have a glance at it by visiting the site freemusicarchive.org. The one I chose this time is Eigenheimer, from Holland, who has just released his new album, called "Dit Is Mijn Kop". Judging from what's written on the bio you can find on his Irish (!) label myspace (alkalinear recordings), we must be dealing with a very eccentric guy... And his music is as such. I selected three tracks that could witness the variety of sound characterizing Eigenheimer music, which could be labelled as a sort of experimental electronics. "A cripple memory" is dark, dreamy and melancholic; "Get along with everybody" is clever clubbing, while "Up in the air" is nervous, chaotic and... scaring!
On almost each of the links above (and below) you can downolad for free the whole album - 20 tracks - by Eigenheimer. Interesting music, as the entire production of Alkalinear recordings, from Ireland, seems to be... we'll deal again with it in the future, no doubt.
Cheers,

The Mexican trip
It rarely happens to me to write a post and associate a single tune to it. But today, precisely now, while I’m watching the last pics I shot, tryin’ not to think about this bloody heat and the sweat on me… while I think to the bloody air conditioner I had not bought yet… this hypnotic, pulsing song comes to me.
Everything was and will stand still. Everything but someone or something, somewhere around the world…
You’re listening to "Morning Glory Seeds at Sunset" by Drugs Made Me Smarter (Carlos Gutiérrez Vidal's solo project). You can find it (in free download) in the album called “Harmony road”, an old production (2006) by Umor Rex, the amazing Mexican net-label I discovered by chance a few weeks ago.
After my first post about Tidy Kid, I promised I would have listened to their fresh releases, and I’ll do it just after having defeated this heat (but you can do it right now, if you want: http://www.umor-rex.org/umorcontents/).
The problem is that tonight I really lost myself in this endless loop. It’s something that I simply cannot avoid: for me, no escape from it.
In the end, I think that we’ll often talk about Umor-Rex… By now, enjoy this shot of synthetic intelligence…
